Description of Duties:
Produce 30- or 60-minute newscasts.
Responsible for story selection and editorial content.
Time programs and segments with a good sense of pacing, energy and urgency.
Oversee editing, script writing and creation of news graphics.
Lead and work with assignment editors, reporters, writers and sports producers while making editorial and content decisions in accordance with department guidelines and standards.
Effectively communicate with field reporters, tape editors and talent.
Write news stories and all newscast teases: in
a straightforward, active voice, conversational style, with proper grammar and spelling.
Monitor wires and feed sources for updated information.
Respond aggressively to breaking news.
Use all production elements accurately, consistently and creatively.
Exercise sound news judgment.
Make quick decisions, and clearly communicate in the control room.

Physical Demands:
This physical job requires the candidate to be physically fit to avoid injuries. Must be able to carry and set up camera equipment often weighing 30 lbs.

Photographer/Editor

Description of Duties:
The Photographer/Editor is expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of contemporary lighting techniques and fully understand the use of professional audio equipment commonly used in Programming. Prior use of HD gear is essential. Final Cut editing proficiency is a plus. Must be able to troubleshoot minor equipment problems in the field. Additionally, must be able to monitor basic vehicle maintenance. A positive approach to problem solving will be essential for success. Some traveling required.
 
Qualifications:
B.A. degree in a related field preferred. Three to five years photography experience in a major market required. A minimum of two years of editing experience is a plus. Extensive knowledge of the Bay Area required. Must maintain a current California Drivers License in good standing.

Work Environment:
Photographer/Editor will work in a variety of environmental conditions including, but not limited to: intense noise, extreme temperature, weather, fumes/odors, dust, chemicals, smoke, and extreme heights. Photographers carrying camera equipment could be placed in dangerous or hazardous situations similar to, and along with, police and fire personnel. You must be able to travel by boat.

Assignment Desk Editor - TV

Open Position : Assignment Desk Editor - TV
Department : News
Reports to : Assignment Manager

Description of Duties:
Monitors breaking news while reading wires, taking phone calls, and coordinating crews and reporters.  Must be able to gather, filter, and present urgent local and national news stories. Excellent communication and team building skills required.  Strong editorial judgment under extreme deadline pressure.  Develop potential story and community contacts with Bay Area newsmakers.  Coordinate field crews, Chopper 5, ENG trucks and SNG truck.  Track reporter's story progress and assist reporters with story set up.  Effectively monitor police, fire and other emergency frequencies on newsroom scanners.  Make regular checks of local agencies for potential spot news stories.
 
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of two to three years experience as an Assignment Editor in a major market. A college degree in Journalism or Communications or related field required.  Exceptional organizational skills, ability to reason and make informed decisions under deadline pressure.  Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must have the ability to operate a desktop computer and the ability to use the I-News computer system and other computer systems as assigned.  Knowledge of Bay Area required.  Must be available to work nights and weekends.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to operate keyboard with accuracy and speed, and have a valid driver's license in order to work at breaking news locations if needed.   Must be able to sit for long periods of time.   Work environment is fast paced, and includes noise from scanners, two-way radios and televisions.

Fall-Spring 2009-2010 PROGRAM DEPARTMENT
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

CW BAY AREA Programming is now accepting applications for a non-paid internship in its Program Department. A bright, personable and energetic individual with a strong interest in current events and public affairs is an ideal candidate for this position.

Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college program, preferably in Communications, Broadcasting or Journalism. Applicants must be able to receive academic credit for their participation in the internship.

The internship will last at least for one semester, and although the hours are flexible, it will involve working Thursday mornings, 9 a.m. to noon, approximately 5 to 10 hours per week at the KBCW/KPIX facility at Battery and Broadway in downtown San Francisco.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

Objective: To acquaint students with the function of a television station public affairs department. Students will participate in various phases of the production of CW Bay Area's weekly public affairs programs and be responsible for office duties, as well.

Duties: In conjunction with Program Department, the public affairs intern will assist in the production of programs; generate show ideas; book and confirm guests; prepare potential scripts and questions for hosts of show, meet and greet guests for shows; pre-interview guests; other duties as assigned.

Summary: This internship will give students an opportunity to learn firsthand how a public affairs effort operates. They will learn how TV stations interact with the community and how public affairs programs are produced from the initial idea to the finished on-air product. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to gain real working experience at a major market television station.

Responsibilities:
·          Responsible for sales of all televsion and internet advertising and promotion solutions. 
·          Leverage existing advertiser relationships to sell. 
·          Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals.
