Job Summary:
Key responsibility is the accurate implementation of traffic instructions for advertisers' broadcast schedules. Includes receiving and procuring all commercial tapes and instructions from ad agencies, dub-houses, sales reps, and other stations if necessary. Responsible for maintaining an accurate and current commercial library. Helps with the daily commercial log preparation with specific responsibility for a key revenue producing daypart
Typical Duties:
Receive commercial tapes, assign house numbers, and deliver to master control for dubbing
Implement traffic instructions in IBS system with specific attention to day/date and copy rotation
Execute copy revisions accurately and promptly, making changes in both IBS and Traffic Master, as necessary
Call agencies, dub-houses, sales and other stations if necessary, to obtain missing materials in advance of advertisers' first broadcast date
Accurate scheduling of commercial spots following advertisers' dictates in addition to avoiding product conflicts..
Resolve commercial spot problems that arise from technical errors or program changes.
Qualifications:
TV/Radio traffic background highly desirable
Highly organized and attentive to details
Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and as part of a team
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Standard of Performance:
Performance evaluated by Traffic Manager and Sales Operations Manager. Key determining factor of performance is the level of accuracy of the traffic instructions and its direct impact on billing. Also key is teamwork and efforts to meet the department's goals.

Description of Duties:
Produce weekend newscast, oversee tape editing, write scripts, research news stories, order news graphics from art department, and time programs or segments. Make effective editorial and content judgments, so that the department's guidelines and editorial standards are met. Assign crews, monitor scanner and beat check calls. Effectively supervise and direct other news staff. Juggle information, priorities and staff in a flexible and effective manner. Use all production elements accurately and consistently. Use superior news judgment.
Work three weekdays as either a fill-in producer, field producer, or writer contributing to consumer news, health news and other special segments, as well as field producing daily coverage.
Requirements:
The successful candidate should have at least three (3) years experience in a major-market television newsroom as a producer. Must have experience with live breaking news coverage. Must demonstrate excellent writing, production and management skills. Editing and shooting experience a plus! Journalism degree and/or equivalent.

The ideal candidate will bring fresh ideas and approaches to presenting complex stories to a dynamic and diverse audience.
Mandatory Professional Requirements

At least 3 years of line producing in a major market with a proven track record.
At least 2 years of television news writing in a major market.
Must possess excellent writing, production and management skills.
Experience and ability to writing compelling news teases.
Must have control room experience with live breaking news coverage.
Newsroom computer experience iNews/Avid or equivalent system essential.
Desktop editing experience a plus.
Related College degree and/or equivalent preferred.
Description of Duties:
Produce 30/60-minute newscast.
Responsible for story selection and editorial content of stories.
Time programs and segments with a good sense of pacing, energy and urgency.
Oversee editing, script writing and ordering of news graphics.
Must have the ability to lead and work with assignment editors, reporters, writers and sports producers while making editorial and content decisions in accordance with department guidelines and standards.
Write all newscast teases.
Effectively communicate with field reporters, tape editors and talent.
Constantly monitor wires and feed sources for updated information.
Respond aggressively to breaking news.
Use all production elements accurately, consistently and creatively.
Exercise sound news judgment.
Make immediate decisions, and clearly communicate in the control room.
Position also includes some news writing. Must be able to create compelling, succinct, and clear news stories from raw material such as unedited video, reporter notes, telephone conversations, and desk notes.
Must have experience working with video editors, providing editing instructions, and familiarity with feed services such as CBS Newspath and APTN.
Must have complete command of proper English grammar, write in a straightforward, active voice, conversational style.

Fall-Spring 2009-2010 PROGRAM DEPARTMENT
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
CW BAY AREA Programming is now accepting applications for a non-paid internship in its Program Department. A bright, personable and energetic individual with a strong interest in current events and public affairs is an ideal candidate for this position.
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college program, preferably in Communications, Broadcasting or Journalism. Applicants must be able to receive academic credit for their participation in the internship.
The internship will last at least for one semester, and although the hours are flexible, it will involve working Thursday mornings, 9 a.m. to noon, approximately 5 to 10 hours per week at the KBCW/KPIX facility at Battery and Broadway in downtown San Francisco.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
Objective: To acquaint students with the function of a television station public affairs department. Students will participate in various phases of the production of CW Bay Area's weekly public affairs programs and be responsible for office duties, as well.
Duties: In conjunction with Program Department, the public affairs intern will assist in the production of programs; generate show ideas; book and confirm guests; prepare potential scripts and questions for hosts of show, meet and greet guests for shows; pre-interview guests; other duties as assigned.
Summary: This internship will give students an opportunity to learn firsthand how a public affairs effort operates. They will learn how TV stations interact with the community and how public affairs programs are produced from the initial idea to the finished on-air product. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to gain real working experience at a major market television station.
